SHERIFF UNITS. Area of Court and 13th Street North. Suspicious male, possibly EDP. Grid M6

Looking through the incoming calls from Shiloh County Comms, I notice a new call assigned to dispatch, reading through the call taker's notes, it's just some guy in the sun dressing for the weather, and then it clicks. I move the priority up and dispatch.

ELDERLY MALE SUSPECT, REPORTED IN AREA, WEARING ONLY LONG COAT, POSSIBLE NO PANTS. SEE BOLO. TALKING TO HIMSELF LOUDLY. ADVISE IF MCIT NEEDED.

Dispatcher Amiee Tai

Hearing the call go over I pick up the microphone

"220 Patrol Supervisor, This may be one in the same with that special category missing. Show me responding."

*I flip my lights on and head in the direction of the park*

Possible EDP. Might be a fun job for SWAT.

"ERT, show me going, 213."

I flick on my lights, and make my way over towards the park. Looking at the MDT, I see 220 also going. Shit.

*I arrive before long and see an elderly man walking around with wrinkly flesh color pants.*

"220, Show me out. I have the subject located."

*I walk across the grass to the man who's talking to himself.*

'Sir, Is everything alright?'

'Yes officer, Everything is fine. Me and my wife just wanted to go for a walk in the park. Tell the nice policeman hi honey.'

*I pause waiting to hear the non existant wife greet me.*

I hope 213 gets here soon.

Turning the lights off on my truck before I arrive on scene, I grab the radio when I see 220 parked on the side of the road.

"ERT, 213 on scene as well backing 220."

I flick the position slider to 1, activating the low speed rear warning only on the truck, since we're technically blocking an active lane. Getting out, I approach the senior and the sergeant.

"Sarge." I say, in a manner of greeting.

  • Burke changed the title to Suspicious Activity Call Number 20230801

'Jerry.'

*Saying as I let him size up the scene.*

'This Gentleman is out with his wife and I think it's getting a little chilly. Can you go back to your patrol vehicle and get this man a blanket?'

'That is so thoughtful of you officer.'

'Lets take a seat on this bench while we wait for my partner.'

*I guide the man to sit on a bench as I take a few steps away to get on the radio while I keep an eye on him.*

"220, I think this is in regard to the special category mission from the nursing home. Can you contact the facility to see if they can send a staff member to identify him."

Heading back to the patrol car, really unsure what the hell I'm doing, I keep going, but with an ear to the scene, and at least one, just in case. Bruno didn't seem nervous, but still, something is definitely off. No wife in sight. When I hear his radio transmission, I think okay, this is definitely not anything to be genuinely alarms about. Just a little more cautious. Looney Tunes. I can handle that.

Coming back from the car, I have a blanket in hand, and I see Bruno on the bench negotiating for the man to sit with him still.

"Hi sir, I've got that blanket for you and your... Wife. Why don't you take a seat, relax a little bit?"

*As Jerry goes and gives them the blanket.*

"220 The nursing facility has advised they are short staffed and to call EMS. I have AMR responding ETA 10 minutes"

'Jerry, AMR will be here in 10.'

*Jerry looks up at me and as I say that.*

'I want to go for a swim!'

*The old man gets up and starts walking towards the fountain. All I see is flapping.*

'Um, sarge. I'm not in the slightest bit interested in chasing Donald D over there, I don't know about you.' I say, pulling out my gloves, just in case.

I look away for a second debate what to do next. It's going to be unpleasant no matter how we deal with this.

Once my gloves are on, I pick up the blanket again and look towards Bruno.

"Fancy yourself much of a duck hunter?" I say, "We might need a few extra hands."

"Fancy yourself much of a duck hunter?"

'I'm more like the dog that laughs at you when you miss.'

Sigh

'We got to do what we have to do.'

Saying as I put my work gloves on.

'Let's just hope AMR gets here sooner rather than later.'

*We both step up to the fountain as the gentleman is splashing around*

"ERT, advise AMR to expedite please. We've got the subject in the fountain." I say into my radio.

"Alright sir, come on, let's hang on a second, did you check in with the lifeguard before getting in the pool?"

I shoot a look at Bruno when he gives me that face.

"Shut up, you got any better ideas Sarge?"

"Shut up, you got any better ideas Sarge?"

*Seeing the red and white vanbulance pull up.*

'Yeah we can just make it there problem.'

*Seeing two petite female EMTs get out.*

'Or maybe not.'

'BRING YOUR STRETCHER!'

*One goes back to the back of the truck to pull the stretcher.*

'Want to just grab him and throw him on?'

"Honestly, I like that first idea better."

Stepping towards the foundtain, I spread the blanket out to wrap around him.

"Okay sir, let's get you into the towel and then we'll check in with the lifeguard first. We can't have the youngsters worried."

I swear to god, I'm not touching any wrinkly balls today if I can avoid it.

*As the two EMTs arrive with the stretcher we step into the fountain Jerry wraps him in the towel. We grab him by the arms and walk him over to the stretcher. The EMTs lower the stretcher and we toss him on.*

'This is a possible missing out of a nursing home. We don't have an ID on him and you're welcome to check his pockets if you can find them.'

*The EMTSs giggle.*

'Taking him to county?'

'Yeah.'

Handing the wrinkly mess over to the EMTs, I wipe my gloves on the side of the stretcher subtly by the pt when he gets on, and then I look at the Sarge.

"Well, looks like we've got him in without too many bad nightmares. Unless you got anything else, I'm heading over to the truck."
