Watching the call come over after having just cleared off the shooting, I decide to respond by keying up the mic.

"201 ERT, attach me to call. Enroute ETA 4-5 min."

I switch my lights onto Stage 2 as I begin driving over to the scene, being quite far away but still hoping I can get there in time.

"206, show me responding"

Well, it's in Oxnard and that's where I'm heading anyways.  Might as well do this before getting dinner I think to myself as I drive non-emergent to the mall.  They've already got the suspect so yeah, no reason for lights or sirens on this.  All we'll be doing is reviewing what happened and taking the suspect from them if they decide to press charges.

“SHERIFF X2 - RESPOND TO EASTLAND MALL, OXNARD, FOR A SHOPLIFTING IN PROGRESS. CALLER REPORTS A WHITE FEMALE IS SHOPLIFTING MAKEUP FROM SEPHORA. MALL SECURITY ADV THEY HAVE VIDEO FOOTAGE.” said the dispatch officer. I just left my house to go onto call.

“ERT, this is 202. Put me on responding to the call. Imma be there in 5-7 minutes or so.” I say into my radio.

It was my third call with the SCSD and I planned to make it up to my colleagues after my last two screwups. A white woman -possibly a Karen- stealing makeup? Only in America.

As I inch closer to the mall, I flick off my lights. Seems like an ordinary call, no need to rush it. I park my car on the street adjacent to the main entrance, grabbing the mic from the center console as I hold onto the PTT.

"201 ERT, show me on-scene"

I swing the driver's side door open as I slide out, closing it behind me - beginning to walk toward the main entrance, looking about for Lt. Blart.

Pulling up on scene I park behind 201 and get out after shutting off the vehicle.

"206 on scene"

Entering the mall I catch up to Allen as he looks to hook up with the security officer in charge here.

'You want to talk with the suspect as I review the tapes on this?'

I get another call regarding a prowler watching a woman in her bathroom and bedroom and decided that that call is more important than a shoplifter. Besides, I knew that there were cops already heading to the call.

“Dispatch, remove 202 from the call. 202 is heading for the recent Prowler call, thanks.” I say.

'You want to talk with the suspect as I review the tapes on this?'

'Sure.'

I go up to Lt. Blart who has the woman next to him with her wrists around her back, handcuffed.

'So, miss..?'

'Spencer.'

'Miss Spencer. Have you been really shoplifting.. makeup from Sephora?'

'Yes, officer.. I have. I was a bit out of my mind and made an unreasonable choice.'

I nod as I keep asking her questions pertinent to the incident. I'd escort her to my car's back seat alongside Lt. Blart and have her sit down, but leave the rear left door open for the time being as I wait on Cpl. Hawke.

Meeting up with mall security I see they have the woman apprehended.  As Allen deals with the woman I ask one of the other guards to see the security videos as well as to get a copy made.  The guard agrees and takes me to where their security monitors are.  As they play the video for me I watch the woman on screen as she starts taking stuff from Sephora.  When the video ends I turn to the guard.

'Alright, still need that copy and are you pressing charges?'

'Making it now and yes, we are.'

'Okay'

Receiving the copy of the video I head out of the mall and meet up with Allen.

'I have the copy of the video showing her taking stuff.  They are pressing charges so write her a summons and let her go.'

I take out my citation book as I begin writing down her information, then issuing her a summons. I ask Lt. Blart to uncuff her, which he does. I hand the paper over to the lady and give her instructions regarding it as I close the RL door and hop back in my car, nodding towards Hawke.

Spencer gave the stolen items back to Lt Blart.

'All good here. Miss Spencer, you're free to go.'

I take the mic and hold onto the PTT.

"201, call code 4, summons issued. Show me back on patrol."
