SCFD EMT Down

[C. Aylward]

"Medic 1 to county. I have an Job at Station 1 for an employee down."

"Copy that Medic 1. Do you need any additional resources?"

"Negative just make the notifications"

*I put the job in the CAD and assign it to Medic 1*

[A. Breslin]

"Negative just make the notifications"

'Hyland! Where the fuck are you?'

*I grab the stretcher and bring it over. I drop it in front of Erika and help her on.*

'Are you on your period? Are you Pregnant?'

 

[E. Sjostrom]

Trying to endure the pain as I get helped on the stretcher.

'Are you on your period? Are you Pregnant?'

'Well, I'm a little late so it's possible.'

[C. Aylward]

Employee down, no further information, that's what I like to hear. 

"Medic 1, can you advise if any units are out on this?"

"Negative. Just 1."

"10-4 Medic 1."

Guess it's one of theirs. Roster shows 3 people on crew, so I key in the EDO number to advise the platoon chief.

'EDO'

'Chief, ERT here. Just put Medic 1 on a call for employee down at Station 1. Looks like it's one of their medics. You want to head over that way?'

'Yeah, I'm just down by the river, I'll swing back up to the station. Any idea what's on the go?'

'No the officer was pretty quiet about it. Let me know if you need OHS or Sheriff there for a workplace or not.'

'Yeah, no problem.'

I right click the EDO-1 callsign and attach it to this call. So far two trucks and fuck all for information. My kind of call. I should've left this one for the dispatchers. So help me god if this is a workplace call.

[A. Breslin]

*We strap Erika in on the stretcher and load her in. I turn to Hyland.*

'Have you ever driven an ambulance before?'

*Turning back as I sit on the bench and set my monitor up. I get the BP cuff and get it to cycle. I know it's going to be low.*

'Erika, You look like shit.'

[E. Sjostrom]

'Feel like it too'

Responding to Breslin's comment I nod a hello to Andy in response to her greetings.

[A. Breslin]

"Yes, ma'am.  I can drive."

*I toss the keys off my belt to the new girl. The monitor beeps and I see Erika's BP is slightly elevated.*

'County, I will tell you when were good to go.'

*I open up the ALS bag and find an IV starter. I tie off the tourniquet while I set up.*

'I don't know if you look away or watch but you know whats coming.'

*I find a site in the AC and slide the needle in. Seeing blood flash I retract and advance the catheter. I cap the needle and put it in the sharps bin.*

[A. Breslin]

*Before I finish the IV I feel the ambulance move forward. I didn't tell her she could move.*

'Did I tell you we can move yet!'

*I glance at Erika.*

'Sorry'

[A. Breslin]

'We all did that at one point.'

*I say to Erika, who helped me train countless other EMTs and Medics*

'We'll be there shortly, Do you need me to call anyone when we get there?'

[E. Sjostrom]

Any pain from the IV going in is barely noticeable when compared to the rest of the pain I'm feeling; even with the new EMT jumping the gun by getting us going prematurely.  Well at least Breslin was done inserting the needle before she did that.  There's only one person who comes to mind when asked about being called.

'Just Martin.'

[A. Breslin]

'Ok I'll give him a call as soon as we get you registered.'

*I look at the opening*

'Lets start rolling'

[A. Breslin]

*The ambulance moves again and before long we arrive at the hospital. New girl comes around the side and opens the rear doors. We unload the stretcher and push it into the ER*
