Report of Armed Robbery

[A. Tai]

SHERIFF UNITS x2 Area of 1st Street Mini Mart Fort Shannon, White Male Suspect, black hoodie, armed with suspect knife, fleeing area with cash and cigarettes. Respond emergency. 

'911, where is your emergency?'

'Help! I've just been robbed. Help!'

'Sir, whereare you.'

'First Street Mini Mart! Help, he had a knife!'

'Okay, I'm dispatching sheriff right now. Is he still there?'

'No, he took the till and a couple cartons of smokes! He's running away from the store! Hurry.'

'Sir, deputies are on the way already, the more information I can gather now, the better equipped we are to catch the suspect. Describe his outfit.'

'I don't know, white guy, he had like a hoodie? He covered his face.'

'What color?'

'He was white.'

[R. O'Reilly]

"204 responding."

I turn the slide switch to position three and start heading towards the Mini Mart. An armed robbery, what a way to begin a shift.

[J. Allen]

Man with a knife? For fuck's sake..

"202 enroute."

I activate my stage 3 emergency lighting, making my way through the streets of Fort Shannon heading towards the Mart. I should be there in a couple minutes - hoping traffic isn't complete ass today.. also hoping I don't get my ass handed to me by Internal Affairs.

[F. Bruno]

"220 Patrol Supervisor show me responding."

*I flip the lights to position 3. I make my way over the broad st. bridge*

"220 To units responding, Have the first unit respond direct and get a direction of flight and a better scrip any additionals will start canvassing. "

[R. O'Reilly]

"204 copies, show me in the area."

I cut my siren and pull into the Mini Mart, parking out the front. I hop out and glance around before heading inside to speak with the clerk.

'Morning, sir. I'm Deputy O'Reilly with the sheriff's office. Can you give me some details about what happened?'

[A. Tai]

"ERT Copies units responding, no further calls in the area reporting a suspicious person. We will advise for any further."

Marking the units on scene as I hear the appropriate calls, as well as entering in any radio notes I gather, I wish I could get a call with direction or even where the caller is

[J. Jones]

*Hearing the call for the armed robbery with the suspect fleeing I reach down and grab the mic*

"232 enroute"

*I flip the lights on as Kilo starts to wine in the back and respond code 2*

"10...4 232." I say ,less than enthusiastically into my microphone, as I update the unit status on my screen. 

I guess SHERIFF x2 means something different on the street. I think to myself. 

I see incoming calls, someone linking to my incident. 

RP REPORTING M WHITE MATCHING DESCRIP. AREA OF FORT SHANNON PARK. SUSPICIOUS. 

I acknowledge the notes being tagged in, and key my mic.

"Sheriff units responding to 1st Street for armed robbery, be advised, second caller reporting suspicious male area of the park, end of 1st, matching description."

[J. Allen]

I quickly come to a halt upon hearing the update on the situation. I start blasting the airhorn for a few seconds, changing direction towards the Ft. Shannon park as I key up the mic.

"202, responding to suspicious male."

The entire sheriff's department is coming over for this one. Not bad, I suppose.

[R. O'Reilly]

I get a quick description from the reporting person and key up on my mic.

"204, ERT, copy an updated description. White male, six foot. Black hoodie and jeans. Armed with a Bowie knife and fled on foot in direction of Fort Shannon Park."

*hearing that traffic i reach down and key up*

"213, ERT, Show me enroute code 2 to the area, 213 to 220 Direct if you want sir i can start over at the park and work my way towards you guys"

*i release my mic and flip my lights on and start heading towards the park*

Entering the notes to the new traffic, including the latest update, I issue a bulletin to MDTs to report the latest description. BOLO Alert. 

"ERT copies all units. No additional calls in the area for the suspect. Be aware, suspect may be armed and dangerous."

[F. Bruno]

"Sheriff units responding to 1st Street for armed robbery, be advised, second caller reporting suspicious male area of the park, end of 1st, matching description."

 

"What's making him suspicious"

'Fucking suspicious person with no further information.'

*I pull up behind 204*

"Show me out with 204."

*I step out of the car and walk over to the Deputy and the C/V. The C/V is going over what happened.*

'He pull a knife out and say give me cash. When I only had 70 dollar he say give me cartons of newports. So I gave him 2 and he said give me more so I did and he ran that way'

*He says pointing up the street.*

It's been a couple minutes.

I turn off my lights before pulling up on a street corner, behind the park. Can see the guy in the hoodie - excellent. 

 "202, on-scene. Eyes on perp, black hoodie."

I step out of my car, stepping over to the sidewalk. 

I may not be a probie anymore, but the inner probie is hitting hard right now.

I walk over to the entrance of the park, leaning behind a sign - having a view of the man while he can't see me.

The man is sitting on a bench, lighting up a cig.

 "202, on-scene. Eyes on perp, black hoodie."

*hearing that traffic i key up*

"213 ERT show me off in the area with 202"

*releasing my PTT i flip my lights off and pull up to the sidewalk and put the truck in park and hop out closing the door behind me, Seeing 202 hiding behind a sign and looking at a unknown in a black hoodie i walk over to 202*

'Hey whatcha got?'

[J. Allen]

I turn around after seeing deputy Rogers, still being behind the sign.

'This is our man. Seems harmless for now - but never let your guard down.'

He adjusted his belt, looking back up.

'He's got a knife. Anyways, you ready?'

He waited for a response, ready to take an approach.

[F. Bruno]

"220 To 213 or 202. Is the perp in custody yet?"

[A. Tai]

"What's making him suspicious?"

Guess we don't need unit numbers. That's fine, radio protocol only applies to dispatchers. 

"Unit calling ERT, caller reports person out of place, matching description of suspect."

"Show me out with 204."

"Unit calling ERT, please identify" I can see the radio identifier, but this guy doesn't want to identify himself now I guess. I wait to see if he answers. 

"202, on scene, eyes on perp, black hoodie." This guy gets it! Good job 202. 

"Copy that 202."

"213, ERT, show me off in the area with 202."

"Copy that 213." I key in the latest traffic and updates, still wondering who our mystery caller is. And then that friendly voice pipes in again. 

"220 to 213 or 202. Is the perp in custody yet?"

Guess this is really just a dispatcher should be eyes on the radio traffic tags only, everyone else gets callsigns. Man, I'm really feeling like a fight today. Maybe I shouldn't have had that burrito last night, I've been upset ever since. 

I notate in my narrative patrol supervisor requested update from units on scene of suspected person. 

 

[J. Allen]

While James was quiet, I heard Frank say something on the radio.

"220 To 213 or 202. Is the perp in custody yet?"

"202 to 220, negative. Approaching now."

I drew my service pistol out, holding it above my hip with my right arm, as I pointed over to the suspect with my left hand, motioning for James to follow along.

I moved away from the sign, making sure there are no civilians around that could be injured. 

I raised my weapon, walking in the park next to James, making sure he's covering me.

'Going. Cover me.'

I slowly approached, standing about 20 feet away from the perp.

'POLICE, PUT YOUR HANDS WHERE I CAN SEE 'EM!'

The man in the black hoodie threw the cigarette aside, raising.

'POLICE, PUT YOUR HANDS WHERE I CAN SEE 'EM!'

*Unholstering my taser i let allen  take the cuffs and as he cuffs him i key up on the radio*

"213 ERT 1x Male in custody slow down all incoming units, 213 to 220 would you come down to the park incase he wants to speak to a supervisor"

*releasing my ptt i put my Taser back in its holster as we walk the male back over to the cruisers to be searched*

*Hearing that the suspect is in custody I kill the lights.*

"232, 213 Yall still want me to proceed in or can I clear?"

[F. Bruno]

"213 ERT 1x Male in custody slow down all incoming units, 213 to 220 would you come down to the park incase he wants to speak to a supervisor"

'In case he wants to speak to a supervisor?'

*I groan and then look at the clerk.*

'If you saw the guy that robbed the store could you Identify him.'

'Yes, I wouldn't forget him.'

'Ok my deputies found someone matching his description. Can you come with me to see if he's the guy who robbed you?'

'Yes yes.'

"220 to 213 Show me headed to your location for a show up."

*I open the rear door of my car for the C/V due to the dark tints. I close it behind him and head over to the park*

[J. Allen]

I hold the cuffed perp still, searching him.

I'd find a knife in his hoodie's pocket, taking it out as I extended it over to James. 

'Yeah, think this is it. Bring 'em over.'

I drag him over to the back of my tahoe, opening the rear door as I placed him inside - shutting the door afterwards.

I'd step over to the sidewalk, leaning against the rear right door, waiting for Frank to show up.

"Copy that 213. ERT Confirming one in custody. Please advise if you still need additional responding units."

Good lord, do we offer supervisors now? Jesus, if they start that shit here, I'm quitting.

"Copy that 213. ERT Confirming one in custody. Please advise if you still need additional responding units."

"213 ERT we should be all good on units at this time"

*releasing my ptt i take the knife from Allen* and place it in a Evidence bag*
