  Biography:
  Born and raised in Reno Nevada, Chris loved to spend his free time adventuring in the nearby Sierra Nevada mountains. Whether it be hiking in spring, or skiing in winter, he was, and still is, as avid outdoorsman. From the beginning, Chris knew that he wanted to be a doctor, but during his early college days, found himself spending more time outdoors than hitting the books. After realizing that his dream of becoming a doctor was slowly starting to vanish, a new sense of determination allowed him to turn his performance around. He worked hard his final years of college and achieved honors, all while working part-time as an EMT in the busy 911 system of Washoe County, NV. After graduating with his biology degree, he decided to get his Masters in Public Health, and eventually applied to medical schools. After spending 4 years in school in the Deep South, his hard work and determination earned him a highly competitive training position in the emergency room of County General in Los Angeles, CA. As a young resident/intern, Chris struggled to keep up with the pressure of practicing emergency medicine in the urban grinder. After a period of adjustment, however, he began to shine and fit in well. Towards the end of his intern year, he met his future wife, a young psychology PhD student, during a mental health rotation. While it wasn't exactly love at first sight, his persistence eventually paid off, and landed him a first date. The rest, was history. After years in the Los Angeles area, the Grant family moved to Shiloh County, the original hometown of his wife Nicole. After years in the Shiloh County area, the family has settled in well, and awaits the next big adventure life throws their way.

   Shiloh County Medical Center - Emergency Department

   October 19, 2021

   *I walk out and over to my desk and sit down. I log in*
   I select Orders
   “Ok sweetie. Bottoms all the way off. Here’s a gown you can put on. Just cover yourself with this sheet….” I hear the nurse say as she closes the curtain in front of the doorway just as I leave the room.
   *I walk over to my workstation and log in.*
   *I type, Morphine. Select 4mg IV Once. Enter.*
   *I type Zofran. Select 4mg IV Once. Enter.*
   *I type in a quick HPI and then return to the exam room. *
   The nurse has Sjostrom all set up and in a hospital gown, and I perform the pelvic exam as the nurse prepares the pain and nausea medication and then proceeds to give it to her.
   Normal external exam, obvious blood. Internal exam shows no trauma or lacerations. Cervical os appears like it may be open a little, but no products of conception seen.
   ‘All done’ I say.
   I relay my findings to her and conclude that we need the ultrasound to know for sure what’s going on.
   A young, pretty, red headed girl in dark green scrubs walks in. The “Ultrasound” on her badge is prominent and portends her intended task.
   ”Hi, I’m Abbie. I’m here to perform your ultrasound.” She says as she starts to wheel in her ultrasound machine.
   ‘Alright, I’ll be back a little later once we get some results back.’ I say as I walk out.
   *I log  back into my computer and look at the lab results.*
   They’re all still pending.
   I’ll check on it later. I’ve got other people to look after.

   *I see a new name pop-up under the patient tracker.*

   *I sign up for the new patient*
   "That name sounds familiar" I say to myself. "Sjostrom...Sjostrom...Sjostrom..."
   I can't seem to remember where I know that name from.
   *I get up and walk over to Resus 7 and walk in as a nurse is getting her vitals*
   *I see the uniform and immediately remember where I know that name from*
   'Miss Sjostrom. I see you're on the receiving end this time around, I hope you weren't too difficult a patient for your colleagues here.' I say as I walk in and walk to bedside.
   'What going on today?' I ask.
   *I get a brief rundown of what's going on. She sounds to be in some pain*
   'Okay. So you 've had some back and lower abdominal pain off and on for the past 15 minutes or so along with bleeding.' I say in summary as I walk over to a box of gloves and don a pair of large gloves.
   'So it is possible that you might be pregnant, right?' I ask as I walk back over.
   '...and you've never had bleeding like this before?' I say as I arrive at her side again.
   'You're 2 weeks late and you're normally very regular with your cycles? You're not a heavy bleeder?' I ask as I place my hand on her abdomen and start to push on different areas of her abdomen.
   'Does any of this hurt?' I ask as I push on the lower part of her belly.
   'Ok. Do you have any history of bleeding disorders? Any medical history of any sort?' I ask as I stop and step back.
   'Any surgeries?' I ask  as I take my gloves off.
   'Ok, and you've had how many pregnancies? How many births?' I ask.
   'Ok. So there's a few things that can be going on here so I'm going to run some tests to see what exactly is going on.' I start to explain.
   'So the things this could be range from minor to serious. First step is I need to check if you're pregnant, because if you are, I need to make sure you've not having an ectopic pregnancy...a pregnancy that is growing in your fallopian tube instead of your uterus...'
   '..because that's a surgical emergency that would need to be dealt with immediately...so I'm going to take some blood, have you pee in a cup to check your urine, and do a pelvic ultrasound. Additionally I'm going to need to do a pelvic exam and see if I can see a source of the bleeding.' I finish.
   'Sound like a plan?' I ask before I'm interrupted.
   'I can enter orders for you' the nurse says as she logs on to the computer in the room.
   'Sure, thank you.' I reply as I look towards her.
   'Let's do a CBC...CMP...PT...PTT...a quantitative beta-HCG...Type and screen...Pelvic Ultrasound...and a U A.' I look back at Sjostrom before turning back to the nurse. '...oh and I'm going to need her in a gown and a set-up for a pelvic exam, if you please.' I ask nicely.
   'Sure thing' she says as she walks out.
   'Alright, so that's the plan? Any questions or anything?' I ask Sjostrom.

   Shiloh County Medical Center - Emergency Department

   October 2, 2021

   *I walk in and take a seat at an empty workspace at the nurses’ station. I open my backpack up and pull out my stethoscope and sling it around my neck before closing my bag and shoving it under the desk.*
    
   “Good morning Dr. Grant” a nurse says to me as she walks by.
   ”Good morning.” I say to her in reply.
   *I get up and grabs some gloves from a nearby box and proceed to put them on.*
   ”Busy last night?” I ask as I proceed over to the tub of cleaning wipes, and pull a wad of wet wipes from the tub with my gloves hands.
   ”Oh pretty typical, started out super busy but we got it taken care of.” She replies and she walks off.
   *I proceed to clean my workspace. The desk, keyboard, mouse, dictation microphone, and even the nearby telephone. Nothing escapes getting wipes with disinfectant wipes.*
   ”Hey Chris. They let you off of nights?”
   *I look over and see one of the other attendings sitting down at a workstation at the other end of the long desk.*
   ”Yeah. I’m just as shocked as you are.” I say as I remove the gloves and throw them and the disinfecting wipes away in a near by trash can. I sit down at the computer and log in. Pulling up the ER tracker I see an unusual sight.
   ”Wow. Only 12 people in the ER and 0 waiting?” I ask.
   ”yeah. It died around 3am and we got this place cleaned out. So it’s all nice and ready for you.” He replied.
   “You have any to sign out?” I ask him.
   ”Actually no. I have 4 here. One is Holding for ICU, and the other 3 are dispo’d. One is already admitted and the others have been discharged.” He replies.
   ”Great. Let’s hope this isn’t the calm before the storm.” I reply cautiously. 
   “Oh I’m sure you’ll pay for this later.”
   ”Definitely.”
   ”Great.” He says as he pick up his leather satchel. “Well, try not to have too much fun” he says as he starts to walk out. 
   “Take care.” I say as he leaves.
   I think today’s is going to be a good day…I hope.

   January 28, 2021

   *I walk into ER North and take a seat at a computer next to the off-going attending. I proceed to clean my work area and make small talk with the off-going attending. Once I'm done cleaning I take a seat and log into my computer.*
   Our conversation about Skiing comes to a conclusion.
   'Ok. You got any to sign out to me so you can get out of here?' I ask him.
   'Yeah. I got 3.' He replies.
   'First is a 39 year old male, came in for pleuritic chest pain, cough, and shortness of breath. Cardiac and pneumonia work-up is negative.  No real risk factors. Resident got a Dimer on him...and it came back mildly elevated...so he's off getting a CTA now. If its negative, which I suspect it will be, he can go home.'
   'Sounds like someone learned why its best not to go down the rabbit hole.' I remark as I quickly look at a few things on the patient's chart.
   'Next one?' I ask, ready to hear about the next patient.
   *He continues to give my the Cliff notes on the remaining two patients I'll be taking over.*
   Neither is anything really crazy. All the hard work has been done, they are just awaiting some lab results before being dispositioned.
   *Once he's done. We exchange pleasantries while he packs up, and then finally leaves.*
   *Looking around I see Thompson (@Alpha) walk in*
   He must have just started his shift as well.
   'Hey Thompson. What music are we playing this morning? You got first request.' I say holding up a Bluetooth speaker.

   Hazardous Structure Fire - MAYDAY MASS CASUALTY

   December 12, 2020

   *I approach the scene. I see the growing mass of emergency lights get closer as I approach the parking lot.*
   "MD-1 is on scene." I say over the radio. I switch the channel to the tac channel.
   *I find where all the EMS units appear to be located and park. EDO-1 pulls in right next to me. I can see the MCI bus and all the support trailers pulling in as well.*
   Just in time.
   *I get out of the vehicle and meet EDO-1 and O-2*
   'Hey Tom.' I say, greeting EDO-1.
   'Hey Doc. Glad you can join us.' he replies.
   *O-2 gives us the low down.*
   M9 is transporting one critical (red) and one delayed (yellow) to County ER. A3 is treating the walking wounded (Green tags). M19 is tending to the other critical (Red tag). M16 just arrived, along with the calvary.
   "Oxnard IC, this is EDO-1."
   "EDO-1"
   "EDO-1 is assuming EMS command" he says over the radio.
   *A whole mass of ERT personnel from the MCI Taskforce walk up to our huddle.
   "Ok. O-2 is ground transport coordinator. Where's my ERT medical liaison?" he asks.
   "Here" someone raises their hand in the group.
   "You're our communications coordinator. Get on the comms and give me and O-2 an inventory of all of the hospitals able to take patients. I need how many criticals, non-critical, and walking wounded each can take. You work with O-2 directly." 
   *EDO-1 looks back at O-2*
   "As ambulances start arriving, you tell each arriving crew who to take and where they are taking their patients." he says.
   "Do I have M99 here?" he looks around the group.
   "Here" someone else says.
   "You're our staging coordinator. As ambulances arrive, I want you to line them up. Separate ALS from BLS if possible. When O-2 is ready for another transporting unit he'll notify you and you lead them to the staging area...right there." he says pointing to a small open area next to where the MCI crew is starting to set up their treatment area.
   "M16, you guys are on triage right over there. Fire will bring or direct new patients over to you. When O-1 gets here, they'll be our triage coordinator." he continues.
   "Treatment coordinator is our very own Dr. Grant here." he says pointing to me. "Once triaged, they will be taken or sent over towards the MCI unit where a treatment area is being set up."
   "Any questions for now?"
   *Silence*
   "Alright. Someone give this stack of triage tags to the triage area please. Make sure every patient we get is tagged. No exceptions. I don't care if it's a civilian, firefighters, paramedic, or the king of Siam. If they're being treated, they get a tag." he says as the the group starts to disband.
   *The group breaks up and gets to work. I walk over to the treatment area.*
   I notice that some cots have been set up, and enormous Red, Yellow, and green tarps have been spread out on the ground, denoting where people of each severity will be treated.
   'Good tarps are out.' I say.
   'Lets get everyone who's been triaged over here and into their corresponding areas. A3 needs to bring the walking wounded to the green tarp, and M19 to the red tarp.' I say in preparation to start treating.

   2020 Emergency Response Team Christmas Party

   December 11, 2020

   *I look around the lobby as I take my heavy over-coat off and my wife does the same with hers. I proceed to check our coats.*
   'Wait. Turn around, let me see you.' my wife says to me as I shove the coat tickets into my pocket. 
   I turn around to face her. She straightens my dark navy with white polka-dots bow tie.
   'Your're a mess' she says quickly brushing the front of my navy suit jacket, which matches the navy pants and black shoes which have been shined to perfection. All a perfect contrast to my light blue-white dress shirt.
   'Well. You know me.' I reply.
   'There'
   *Nicole takes a step back and looks me over*
   'You look handsome.' she says in approval.
   *I immediately pose in a ridiculous sexy pose. She tries to muffle her chuckle.*
   'Thanks for straightening me up...mom' I say as I take my position at her side.
   '...and let me just say...you are exceptionally pretty tonight.' I say looking at her in her dark blue evening dress.
   'Thanks.' she smiles back as we start to proceed into the Banquet hall. I see a lot of unfamiliar faces, but also some familiar ones.
   'Well......' I pause looking around on where to go.
   'How about a drink?' I ask.
   'Sure.' She says.
   As we take our first steps towards the bar I see Commissioner Burke and his wife standing there.
   I stop and catch his attention.
   'Good evening commissioner.' I say holding my hand out for a handshake.
   'The county actually dead enough to allow you to be here tonight?' I ask facetiously.
   'I don't think you've met my wife Nichole.' I say introducing her.

   I'm only a few minutes out from scene, but I can hear the radio going off as EMS units start arriving on scene.
   "O-2 to M3, pull around the fire engines, Medic units are staging on the far end of the parking lot behind Hazmat 41. Pull around and you'll see us.....Break....O-2 to Oxnard Command...we're setting up some basic triage next to Hazmat 41 as requested."
   Good. Sounds like someone's on scene trying to get things organized.

   Sitting in my office, finally getting some real work done, I hear my handheld starting to beep...notifying me that I’m being paged.
   
   *I silence it.*
   it’s never done that before. I’m caught a little off guard by it.
   *I pick up my cell phone and call the comms center*
   “Hey this is Dr. Grant...I just got paged, you have traffic for me?”
   I’m told about the incident.
   ”Yeah put me as responding.” I say as I get up from my desk and out of my office door, locking it behind me.
   I hang up the phone and out to my car.

   ENGINE 11, AVAILABLE EMS, HAZARDOUS STRUCTURE FIRE w/ MASS CASUALTY. Oxnard Ice Rink
   Time of Day: 14:03h. Initial call at 13:25. Weather, Sunny, light wind
   ‘911, what is your emergency?’
   ‘I’m calling from the Oxnard Ice rink, the Zamboni is on fire, but he looks like he’s trying to get out.’
   ‘The Oxnard Ice Rink?’
   ‘Yes. Hurry, he’s, wait, I think he’s bailing.’
   ‘Okay, I need you to get out of the building, there’s fire trucks on the way, but everyone needs to get out. Can you pull the fire alarm on your way out to make sure everyone gets out?’
   ‘Yes. Yes!’
   ‘Is the Zamboni driver okay?’
   ‘Yeah, I think he is, but that fire is big. He’s stopped like right under the door, he almost made it out.’
   *As the caller explains this, I hear the bells sound, and the first unit call their response time.*
   ‘Okay, make sure everyone is out of the building and stays away, the trucks are on the way right now, they’ll be there soon. Do not go back in, no matter what.’
   *As Engine 15 arrives, I hear the initial size up come in.*
   “ERT, can you dispatch Rescue 2 And HAZMAT 41 to this as well. The Zamboni is right underneath what looks like chemical tanks, we’re making entry and starting a line. Evacuation underway.”
   “That’s affirmative sir. Copying Rescue 2 and HAZMAT 41.”
   *I change the call type to HAZ fire and automatically it designates three EMS units, two ambulances and an officer. Medic 7 calls response, in additional to M22, and O-2. Shortly after arrival of Rescue 2, the radio interrupts with a two second warble. I hit acknowledge on the terminal, scribbling the portable number down on the notepad next to me. I pause for a second and then key my microphone.*
   “Portable 513, ERT. Receiving Mandown alarm.”
   “10-4 ERT! HAZMAT. Ammonia… Fire!. Two men down, south entrance.”
   “Affirmative 513. All units clear channel for emergency traffic. Mayday activation, two fire fighters down south entrance. Ammonia fire.”
   *As the incident commander, Captain of Engine 15 starts to take control over the incident, coordinating Rescue 2 to retrieve the downed firefighters, and HAZMAT 41 to get into place to deal with exposure risks, I start the dispatch procedure, initially for additional ambulances, but also on the mayday activation for the spreading chemical fire.
   *Engine 11, Squad 1, RIT 1, Utility 6 with HAZMAT 42 Trailer, Logistics 1, Tact-1, Safety Officer ORV-1, EMS Tour Officer O-2, Fast Response 1 and then I start making calls to notify AMR of the incident. After hanging up with AMR, I call the Deputy chief for operations, and then logistics, in that order, an automatic notification for confirmed mayday activation, as well as logistics truck activation. It’s likely one, if not both, will respond.*
   “ERT, this is Oxnard command. Emergency Traffic.”
   “Go ahead Oxnard Command.”
   “Activate mass casualty, we’ve got inhalation injuries, approximately 15 patients.”
   “10-4 Oxnard Command, ALL UNITS, ALL UNITS, be advised, mass casualty activation underway.”
   *While I notify the ERT mass casualty coordinator, who will send additional units from ERT, such as the bus I hear radio traffic from the scene indicating many are walking wounded. One good thing at least, I think to myself. I key the radio to call up Support 1, who answers, and starts response to the day station for SCFD to take the support trailer, which will be following out medic 99, a logistics support vehicle, designed to help set up a mobile field hospital if necessary, to alleviate unnecessary strain on the hospitals, as well as patients. Lastly, I send the on duty EMS units from SCFD station 1, for an additional transport, if necessary, as AMR hasn’t provided a number on responding units at this time. When all those units are in place, I radio EDO-1, who calls back, confirming response.*

   2020 Emergency Response Team Christmas Party

   The annual ERT Christmas banquet is here! This banquet is limited to uniformed members of the ERT, SCFD, and SCSD. Members are permitted to bring a plus one of their choice. The banquet is held in a downtown Fort Shannon hotel. Rooms are available at a discounted rate for banquet attendees. The hotel has an open bar for the event. During the banquet, end of year awards will be handed out. Following the banquet, there is a live band and a dance floor. Attire is Class A or black tie civilian wear.

   *My start to the shift begins with a yawn and an incoming call.*
   '911, where's your emergency?'
   'Corner of North 12th and North 14th, at Gary's Construction site'
   'What's your emergency?'
   'Old Joe got hit in the head with a something and fell down a floor.'
   'Is he conscious?'
   'No'
   'Is he breathing?'
   'Yes'
   'Stay on the line, I'm sending EMS to your location'
   *Muting the call I get on County EMS's radio.*
   "County to EMS, unit due to the corner of N. 12 and N. 14 in Ft. Shannon at Gary's Construction site.  Caller states victim got hit in the head with something and fell a floor.  Victim is not conscious but is breathing."

   *With a bit of a yawn I glance at the clock to see that it's almost 10am.  Only have a few hours left here and I can go home.  Big Jim in front of me is already sleeping after Charles had just come in to yell at him for 15 minutes for, well, sleeping.  The weather report said it was nice and sunny, not a cloud in the sky, as well as warm.  Can't wait to leave here to experience that weather.  Hearing a call come in those pleasant thoughts will have to wait.*
   '911, where's your emergency?'
   'Oh my god, he came in, he just...'
   'Sir, where and what is your emergency?'
   'Oh, uh, The Bada Bing! on the corner of South Second and East Side Drive.  In Fort Shannon.  Oh hell, they're bleeding a lot.  It's all over the stage.  All over the floor.  Someone came in to our club and shot Mike, our bouncer, and then shot Crystal who was up on stage.  He unloaded his gun on them both before he just left.'
   'Can you give us a description of the suspect and do you know which direction he fled?'
   'No idea on which way he fled but we know who did it, he's a regular here.  His name is Pat O'Donnell.  Fucking Irish Mick.  He's as short as a leprechaun.  Probably 5'5 with Red hair with a goatee.'
   'Can I get a description of the clothes he was wearing?'
   'Can you send us the fuzz and the ambulances already?  He was wearing baggy jeans and a black hockey jersey.  I don't follow hockey, I don't know what team that was.  Oh, he's not armed anymore, he dropped his revolver outside when he fled.  Got it in my hands right now.'
   'Alright, put the revolver down, make sure no one else touches it and stay on the line, I'm dispatching the Sheriff's Department and EMS'
   *Muting the call I get on the Sheriff's radio first.*
   "County to Sheriff's, need units to respond to the Bada Bing on the corner of South Second and East Side Drive in Fort Shannon for a report of a shooting in a club.  Suspect is wearing a black hockey jersey and baggy jeans.  He is short with red-hair and a goatee.  Unknown direction of travel and is believed to be unarmed."

   Here's a game that I think we could all enjoy with our characters.  This is all meant for mindless fun so no need to take it too seriously.  The way this game goes is like this:  At the end of this post I will ask a question or a statement and then you respond to the question or statement with one of your characters while IC.  Then you will ask a question or a statement for someone else to respond to while IC.  The question or statement you ask does not need to be IC but your respond does need to be IC.  You can ask or say something serious or you can ask or say something that's a bit off the wall.
   So here goes, I'll make the first question/statement and someone else can respond.  Remember anyone can respond to the question or statement so try not to say or ask something that targeted to a specific character.

   Station Floor for dispatchers, communications personnel and bull-pen to the offices for the Communications Division. 
   Off the main bull-pen for communications officers is the office of the director of communications, the shift supervisor's workstation, a small EOC, as well as washroom facilities and a break room.

    The apparatus floor, including outdoor parking spaces, located in the center of the station. With the office and administration building, including platoon chief and the Fire Marshall, and the station 1 living quarters on the other side. Gear is stored in lockers and closets on the living quarters side of the station. 
    The apparatus floor is dual doored, allowing for pull through, or dual direction exits.
