Eating my meal I listen to the Commissioner's speech about the state of the ERT.  Taking a couple of sips of my cider I listen to his thank yous.  Setting my fork down on my unfinished meal I listen to him start handing out the awards.  Applauding with the others as he hands out the Paramedic of the Year award to Murdoch.  Don't really know the guy.  Seen him on calls a few times.  This is his second time in a row getting this award so I guess he's good.  Done applauding I pick up my fork again and resume eating.

I arrive to the part a bit late, I see the Commissioner beginning to start the award ceremony calling Murdoch up to the stage for the EMS provider of the year award. I honestly don't remember nominating him. I wish Logan could have made it tonight but unfortunately I don't have many friends here tonight. But I look good in my new dress, I quickly grab a drink and find a seat.

As Murdoch leaves the stage, I make the next announcement. 

'Follow recommendations from the ERT Communications division, as well as support from our first response agencies, the dispatcher of the year is awarded to a uniformed dispatcher from the SC ERT CountyCommunications Division. It's my pleasure to present Dispatcher Amy Tai with the award for 2021.'

Eating my meal I hear the Commissioner call out one of the dispatcher's names to award them dispatcher of the year.  Setting down my fork I join the others in applause for a bit before I go back to eating.

* id been sitting and bullshitting with the guys from station 5 for the night, so much so i almost totally ignored my fish dinner 5s crew is kinda in the back so the fact none of them really clapped when murdick got his award dident suprise me and i wasent gonna clap and be awkward,when they announce the dispatcher however i had heard the women inumerable times but never had seen her,so when she collects her award the guys and i clap and applaud   before i start on my mea i do a double take  tapping 5s engineer on the shoulder* ' that girl who just walkin in would you belive thats my stations paramedic lieutenant' * the engineer gives breslin a once over then returns to his meal as i finish my scan of the room,spotting mar with his girl as well as landon snd a few cops normally id go and be more social but without booze the banquets honestly a major buzzkill,thres probably an after party but i doubt im invited  at the same time im glad theres not a fight as i return to my meal*

*As the dispatcher goes up to recieve her award I feel a sharp jab to my leg. I look down and see steph has poked me with a fork under the table.*

Steph: 'She probably looks like a pornstar under that uniform, Stop looking'

'I wasn't

Steph: 'You can look at me later captain'

*Steph says with a playful tone in her voice*

After presenting the dispatcher of the year, the SC Law Enforcement Officer of the year is the next award on the table. I read the name out.

'It is with great pleasure that I recognize the Shiloh County Sheriff's Department for its law enforcement officer of the year, a Shiloh County Medal of Honor winner, Evelyn Hawke. Deputy Hawke.'

When the applause dies down for the dispatcher of the year I figure it's safe to take another bite of my meal.  Nope.  Just as I'm about to grab my fork I hear the commissioner announce law enforcement officer of the year along with my name.  Grabbing my glass of cider instead I take a quick sip and set it down.  Getting out of my chair I briefly turn to Mark.

'Guess I'll be right back.'

Setting off towards the stage I can only feel a bit embarrassed.  Didn't expect this tonight.  Maybe I should have worn my Class A's after all but well this is a certificate not a pin so I guess it doesn't matter.  Receiving the award from the Commissioner I pose for a few photos and head back my table being glad I'm out of the spot light.

* having left scrat and his wife when food started comming mainly wandering with the few others who hadent eaten or ordered food i hear evelyns name get called for cop of the year,i set my cider down aplauding like the others given what she went through she totally deserved it once  i finsh aplauding a waiter brings me a lasagna meal which i start into having joined a few other single sd members at a random table*

Ready to pin the gold star from the blue ribbon to a uniform, I pause when I see the ballgown moving up front. Well, I guess she didn't get a memo. I make a mental note for next year. Posing for photos holding the medal in the case, I smile and shake her hand. 

 

As we prepare for the announcement of the firefighter of the year, I stand to the mic again.

'The firefighter of the year is awarded to a member of the fire services, including county, city and industrial fire departments within the ERT's organizational umbrella. This year's firefighter is selected from the Shiloh County Fire Department, Firefighter Landon Cook.' 

As I see a man stand, I display the medal in its case to the audience, a gold maltese with the year engraved and the honorific.

Listening to the Commissioner move on to the next award I suddenly hear my name called for it.  Getting up from my seat I leave my table and head up to the stage.  Receiving my award I pose for some pictures and head back to my seat.

'The rookie of the year is nominated by the supervisory officers, including both supervisors, as well as the rookie's training officers. This award is presented to the member recommended as most promising, and finally selected by the county board of emergency response, upon the supervisor's recommendations. This year's selected rookie of the year is Firefighter Whiskey Andersen of the Shiloh County Fire Department.'

As I wait for her to come to the stage, I present the medal to the crowd for inspection. Visibly similar to the supervisor's award, it hands on an identical ribbon, the medal of the same shape, but without the crossed laurels in the centre.

As Andersen does the photo op and medal presentation, I go through the motions.

'Lastly, the award to recognize the supervisory officer of the year. This is a person assigned as a department trainer full time, or holding the rank of sergeant in law enforcement, or lieutenant in the fire services and EMS, or as a crew manager. This year's awardee is Lieutenant Jennifer Noel of the SCFD.'

As the last awards are handed out I join in on the final rounds of applauds and finish my meal in the process.  With the awards part of this banquet now over I hear the music start playing.  Seeing people start flocking over to the dance floor I turn to Mark.

'Well, shall we dance?'

* with no booze and all the awards given out im not in to to much of a social mood,never tend to be at these events so after i finish my meal i move to stand, stepping outside  hang around for another 5maybe 10 minutes before climbing in my truck and heading home to my waiting dog*
