* i unclip aswell when im roughly half way down the stick taking a second to secure my tank before i set the saw down on the truck safely outta the way but near enough should for whatever reason it be needed again its in easy reach i can stow it later when we go to move,in the same set of steps i move around to where we have our ground ladders and get that set as i undo ,y coat and shift my airpack so everything's more comfortable glancing up at the building a moment before moving to grab a bottled water ,which i opt to chug nearly emptying it in the process if only cause its hot in turnouts waiting for just where im putting the ladder which ii had set on the ground i so i could drink*
-
'Lets Go Dave Off the Roof we've done all we can do lets go get some ladders thrown' *sounds good man *breath*' whatcha think started this fire?' * i ask as we move to climb back down the ladder, once again letting the now killed Saw ret across my shoulder behind boorne,i glance at my bottles gauge ive to my suprise killed nearly a half a tank tho admittedly its between half and a 3/4ths full which tells me im either slacking in my workouts or worked harder just now then i realized no matter as ive got plenty to throw ground ladders but with the smoke comming outta my vent holes i might not even need to go on the tank*
-
'Let's go to the south side of where Engine 1 is'
*i give boorne a nod and follow, when he sets his mark i set my feet and line the saw up* 'here goes' * saying that and with a breath i bring the saws revs up and on another breath i once again plunge the blade in mimicking the cut the same way i did the north sides, and step back well clear of my work * ' same thing ill follow you bro'* breath*
-
*after making an ass of myself with forgetting my hood and helmet me and bourne walk the roof i know landon probably saw me but im curious if any civvies did too if only for the departments image and social media, ive delt with insults and the like so it wont honestly bother me as i set my feet and rev the saw up* ' one trench cut *breath* commin up man' * saying that i plunge the saw into the roof on the northern side, and the second i do a crapton of smoke comes out, ignoreing it i walk the saw back to where i guess the apartment ends, making a nice initial vent hole, then walk the trench cut back West to East a ballparked 5 to 6 feet* 'ok next, ill follow you man' *breath* i say once again letting the saw idle by my side safely pointed away*
-
*as ian takes the saw i nod' *right be right back' *breath* and start ducking back down the ladder im wasting my bottle and i realize that but the entire process of me getting my hood and helmet takes maybe 45 seconds to a minute tops, thanks both to the department drills, and no doubt to much the same drills when i was in the Navy,as you dont forget shit like that, adrenaline no doubt helping too as i step off the ladder on the roof again i grab the saw, which is still running and give ian yet another nod* 'now, lets break shit'*breath* 'ill follow you then cut based on what you manage to poke out'
-
* i nod as i set the saw on the ladder railing and give the cord a solid yank,as it idles i clip my mask in and go on air being an idiot however i forgot my helmet solly blaming my own overeagerness as a glance down the stick by the turntable confirms the error, with the saw idling i step off* 'lets bang this out man*breath*forgot my fucking helmet by the turntable'
-
'Good work buddy your the best'
'pffft im just doing my job and making sure we both get home, thats all man' * i say as i slip my own airpack on not like ill need it but better to have then not* ' lets go destroy shit brotha' * i grab the saw slinging it over my shoulder lumberjack style and clip in my packs regulator opting to let it dangle as i follow behind boorne, the buildings 3 storys yes but ive climbed steeper ladders with heavier shit over my shoulder that was more awkward* 'ready when you are ian, just be sure to spot the roof,id rather not fall through given the smoke'
-
'Valentine, move the ladder over the roof, Boorne you're first up.'
'on it'* with the trucks brakes on and being told to fly the stick,i spring into action, pulling a wheel chock from where its stored on the cab and setting it in such a way that the truck no matter how it should fall should the outriggers collapse it will catch a cab tire i also take the time to ready my pack, should i need it near the controls of the turntable as well as are harnesses and the like, then i finally deploy the outriggers when the outriggers are set i then start the stick itself* 'LADDER GOIN UP!' * i call out as i start to rotate it into place* 'SET.AND LOCKED!' * i shout as i move to pre set a few harnesses up at the base so all my brothers and sisters need to do is clip in and climb after they pull them on* 'were as ready as we can be lieu'
-
* basically on the Engines rear bumper the entire way ,as they pull up to the hydrant kiddy cornering the corner to give room for the tiller,i roll to a stop so my cab is facing into oncoming the officer side bumper corner in turn kiddy cornered with the Engines rear officer side corner, the tail of the tiller effectively creating a box of sorts to guard the scene and anybody supply lines from passerby cars sorry shiloh county,i just blocked the lane and unless told otherwise, aint moving till we get this fire out luckily our turntables accessible from either my or landons side should any body else need to access our ladder hitting the ladders parking brake i step out, pulling my turnout coat on*' yeah... go time baby first due truck!'
-
*having crashed out in the lounge chair i had sat in for a nooner im jolted awake by the tones basically rocketing out of the chair i sprint across the bay floor to the ladder halfassidly pulling my turnout pants on,the other suspender ill fix when i get a free minute on scene and my turnout coats still across the drivers seat i pop the brakes and flip the lights on as the truck comes to life, the engine beats us out and marks pickups gone already as i see through my mirrors Ian's door on the tail close my tell tail airhorn blast follows asi pull in behind Engine 1 basically on there ass as we both enter traffic i know ive cut somebody off at the intersection nearest the house, but i could give a shit as to who or what it was as we roll towards our fire* 'first due truck company baby hell yeah'

Kimberley Flooding Disaster Aid
Started by W. Burke ·
Timewarped assistance, ERT activation with call up of SC Resources to aid with disaster aftermath including search and rescue, and flood mitigation efforts. Also a great place to work on some character stuff.
Pulling into Kimberley, I flick the lights of my SUV while approaching the roadblock. The SAR volunteer moves the roadblock out of the way and I only slow to a safe speed while passing, instead of making the full stop. I reach down and turn off the lights as I make my way to the unified command post at the school parking lot to check in. Thank god we don't have the KVFD any more.
I park my unmarked behind the satcomm vehicle, making care not to block in the white Tahoe used by our dispatchers for their commute. Something about paying extra to drive to Kimberly from home, instead of from the office. Should be time for them to leave soon, and return to the headquarters building. I make a mental note to buy a second one, as now we've got two staff cars tied up for dispatchers to commute, since we can't leave the command post without a radioman, and we can't expect them to teleport. And the county board wouldn't approve a helo transport twice daily. I look in the mirror as I get out and see the white mininvan that serves as 50-84 pulling down the road. Looks like the relief has arrived for the radioman too.
Stepping out of the car, I lean in and grab my hat. While still a class C uniform, the ERT uniform still looks significantly more formal than most others with our white shirts, and the five gold rows of braid on my shoulders doesn't help. I pull on my hat and look around at the scene. It's still early, so there's mostly just the overnight staff holding down operations. There's very few missing people, and realistically, they probably aren't rescues at this point.
The flooding of the river into Acadia Bay took out most of the main road through town, damaged most buildings, and ruined most farms. Not to mention the damage to the route 40 heading out of county. The underdevelopment of the area contributed to the majority of the damage. The rest of the county, the damage was mostly minor. Not here. Most the trucks in the base area are ERT, with 1201 as main command, 1203 working as the personnel manager, coordinating check ins and quartermastery. That's about all that the old van is big enough for. Its diminutive size is only made more apparent with the large transport truck parked next to it. Behind 1201, hooked directly into it is our satcomm vehicle, 1206, ensuring that we still have connections to all data streams while the providers try to fix the mess the floods made. The only other vehicles in the command staging area, aside from mine, are the ones driven by the senior agency representatives from Sheriff, Fire and of course ERT. Oh and the most important vehicle, 50-01, the ERT's coffee and food truck, or officially, its "rehab unit." Everyone else has to park over in staging area in the next lot over. That lot is a more diverse grouping of vehicles, including the SCFD's marine truck, the ERT's various support vehicles, SCSD, local police and other fire apparatus, most of which look to be "reserve" trucks staffed by firefighters, sheriffs, medics and EMTs, and police officers all on overtime.
I poke my head into 1203, check in and make my way over to command to get the briefing from last night.

Fire Department Involved MVA

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT, BAY STREET AND SOUTH NINTH STREET, FORT SHANNON. ENGINE 1, LADDER 1, RESCUE 1, UNIT 22, DEPUTY 1, MEDIC 1, MEDIC 2, MEDIC 43, MEDIC 42, OFFICER 1, EDO-1. MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT, BAY STREET AND SOUTH NINTH STREET, FORT SHANNON. ENGINE 1, LADDER 1, RESCUE 1, UNIT 22, DEPUTY 1, MEDIC 1, MEDIC 2, MEDIC 43, MEDIC 42, OFFICER 1, EDO-1. BAY STREET AND SOUTH NINTH STREET FOR MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT.
SCSD TRAFFIC UNITS IN AREA OF FORT SHANNON SOUTH RIVER, RESPOND TO FIRE DEPARTMENT INVOLVED MVA, POSSIBLE FATALITIES, BAY STREET AND SOUTH NINTH STREET.
Listening to the radio traffic, I hear that the fire in South River is starting to clear up, some of the extra apparatus are leaving the scene, RIT, Logistics, and ladder 14. I mark the units as returned to service and adjust the timers for RIT and Logistics as they're well outside of their regular run. A few minutes pass and the phone rings.
"911 Where is your emergency."
"One of your trucks just like did a flip."
"Okay sir, I need you to confirm your location."
"I'm on Bay Street, right by the end of the park. I don't know, I think ninth?"
I confirm on the ALI that this looks like the right location. "Sir, what do you mean one of our trucks did a flip?"
"A Fire Truck, like with a ladder"
"Okay, sir, I'm sending emergency services, is the truck upright?"
"No, it's like, not totally upside down, but you know, it's really bad. There's a guy just hanging out of the door. I think he's dead."
My heart drops. I start to give instructions for him to check on the scene, and while I wait for him to get there, I key the mic for the radio. "Ladder 14, ERT." Nothing. "Ladder 14." Still no answer. That's our involved truck.
I tone out the incident, and assign an upgraded alarm, sending extra resources to the scene, as well as notifying Aylward.

Person Stuck in Swing
Started by A. Tai ·
ENGINE 1, SHILOH CIRCLE PARK, EXTRA SERVICE, PERSON STUCK IN SWING, ENGINE 1, SHIHLOH CIRLCE PARK, PERSON STUCK IN SWING, ENGINE 1, EXTRA SERVICE
Taking myself off of the Not Ready feature, I see the 911 line come to life almost instantly. Of course.
"911, where is your emergency?"
"Shiloh Circle. Like the playground."
Typing the address, I select playground.
"Tell me exactly what is happening"
"Um, it's not really an emergency, but like we don't know who else to call."
"Okay, tell me what's happening and I can help you." It's not really an emergency like oh he's dead and you don't want to bother anyone, or oh you've got a splinter.
"Well, my friend was fooling around and now she's stuck in the swing, like the baby one. We've been trying for like ten minutes and just can't get her out!"
"Okay, if she hurt?"
"I don't think so, she's like. Her legs are kinda red. Like they're being squeezed really tight up in the leg holes?"
I gather some more patient information, entering it all in while the toner alerts Engine 1 to respond. Based off the questions, it's not a medical run yet, though if we don't respond, it'll definitely turn into one.
Patient: 16 Year old Female, conscious and alert, normal vitals, stuck in swing, reporting no injuries, possible circulation restriction in lower extremities by swing.
